The "60 Minutes" segment featuring the work of Remote Area Medical® (March 2, 2008) generated one of the greatest audience responses to the CBS news program in the ten years prior to its air date. Echoing throughout that response was an overwhelming national outcry for RAM's kind of help. Remote Area Medical® has received many requests to conduct RAM expeditions in other states, from as far away as Washington and California.

We were also contacted by interested volunteers in Oklahoma, and with their hard work and perseverance they were able to secure the ability for out-of-state practitioners to receive charitable licenses and provide free services at RAM expeditions. RAM conducted its first expedition in Oklahoma July 9-11, 2010. Using RAM's state-of-the-art mobile equipment, volunteers during the 2010 event treated more than 1,600 individual patients, providing approximately 2,500 dental, vision, and/or medical services, more than 100 women's health exams, and nearly 100 STD tests.

From the time the hosts in Oklahoma contacted RAM, they expressed an interest in continuing to provide services to residents of the state through the formation of an affiliation with Remote Area Medical Foundation.
