Purpose:

RAM CHALLENGE

Services:

Trailblazing
Airstrip Repair

Summary:

The RAM CHALLENGE mission involved three multi-national teams: two for creating a new trail and one for repairing an existing airstrip. Volunteers came from the US, Canada, and Scotland to join members of the Guyana Defense Force and fellow Guyanese citizens. The trail teams arrived in Georgetown on October 10th and started at opposite ends of the trail: Para Baru and Gunns Strip. The airstrip team arrived later, on October 15th, and went directly to Gunns Strip. The new trail and re-surfaced airstrip provide additional access for more people in this remote area of Region 9, to volunteer doctors and emergency flights to the nearest hospital.
All three teams completed the work on schedule and everyone departed Guyana by November 3rd. Many look forward to returning again, to take on the next challenge.
