Today
was fantastically busy. Yesterday's new nurses from
Florida were assigned to local shelters, and transportation
was arranged. Dr Wallace took her off day and drove
with a group of other people down to New Orleans to
check on things there, then over to Slidell and through
various areas. But the big project was sending off our
group from last week and getting in a new group this
week from Knoxville.
I had a chance to talk with folks
from the various assignments last night, and heard
many stories, both upbeat and sad. One group had worked
in the parking lot of Children's Hospital in New Orleans
for the entire time. They got to see many things,
and worked very hard.
The Slidell clinic was closed today
for the personnel switch.
We now have 14 doctors, 2 pediatric
nurse practitioners, and 24 nurses that we are coordinating.
The first day assignments are done, with 8 doctors
doing missions for DHH (Department of Health and Hospitals),
one going to Angie with a nurse to check on a clinic,
3 going to local shelters, and two going to Slidell.
Nurses are assigned to Thibodeux, local shelters,
and the Angie trip.
We had a very productive meeting
with Stan, Dan, and Ron from Knoxville at the airport.
They rode down and back on the King Air, so we had
a face-to-face discussion on current situation and
planning. Waldo returned to Knoxville with them.
I will be relocating my "office"
to the Office of Emergency Preparedness. This will
be a major change in my daily experience, and I'm
curious to see how things look by Tuesday.
