“I'm recording this from Keesler
Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. I flew over
here today at the request of the team that was here.
Flew by way of Slidell; stopped there and picked up
a generator and finished the flight into a very nice
little grass strip just north of Gulfport. It's an
airport the way airports used to be, where you're
treated like one of the family as soon as you show
up; I'm really impressed with the place.
We are doing a change of leadership here. I believe
I'll serve here in probably an advisory function for
the next few days and make sure the nurse that we're
training in to take leadership is able to handle the
position before we have a group of doctors show up
in Gulfport, excuse me, in Baton Rouge on Friday.
At that time, we will probably have a good idea of
what Rita is doing or has done, and we'll go from
there. Rita is the big variable right now, predicted
to be a Category 4 and currently projected to make
landfall around the Galveston area or South Brownsville,
Texas. So, we'll see what comes of that before we
make any mass predictions.
That's about the extent of things right now. We
have to have the ambulance back to Livingston Parish
tomorrow because folks in Livingston Parish are preparing
for the results of Rita. Should Rita cause any problems
whatsoever, we expect an influx of refugees, excuse
me, evacuees into that area. We may be back in business
in exactly the same fashion as we've been for the
last two weeks.
Having a few days off has been very nice, though;
I'm definitely more prepared to be going back into
it than I would have been had it been back to back.
The operation that we've done in the Livingston area,
now that we've done that successfully for two weeks,
I'm actually looking forward to doing it again actually
knowing what I'm doing this time. So, we'll see what
comes of it.”
