Katrina & Rita Response
<Previous

Sept 24, 2005

Voice Post

“We all survived Rita intact, I should say, the outer edges of Rita, here in Gulfport and also the folks over in Livingston Parish, LA on our team. The worst report that I've heard is one of our volunteers lost power at his house. So, that is the wonderful, good news on our end. Initial reports, of course, are that the damage to the area of landfall has not been as severe as predicted. We're thankful for that. We still are unclear as to what our role is going to be in the recovery effort, but it's still too early, really, to have a real good handle on that.

The project here in Gulfport is going well. We have all four of our doctors and all of our nurses over in Bay St. Louis now running a clinic there for the day.

Tomorrow the plan, I believe, is to return to Poplarville with at least two doctors and I'm not clear as to what the rest of it, rest of the assignments will be tomorrow.

I'm actually waiting for this continuing wind to lighten up, both here and in the area of Livingston Parish so I can fly back over and take over, or I should say, return to my involvement with the project in Livingston Parish and surrounding parishes.

So that's the brief update for now. It's only three in the afternoon, locally, and I am waiting for my docs and nurses to return this evening or for the weather to clear for the next move.”
