RAM Foundation

The Remote Area Medical Foundation (RAMF) became a nonprofit Tennessee corporation in June, 1996. It was granted tax-exempt public charity status under section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in December of the same year. The RAMF's primary purpose is to generate financial and administrative support for the medical relief activities of the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps. By shifting fund raising and administration to the RAMF, volunteer planners, recruiters and providers are free to attend to the many responsibilities of expedition staffing, mission coordination, and patient care.

Volunteers are the framework upon which the RAM concept is built and are the reasons for its remarkable sucess. In this organization, they find challenging and fulfilling opportunities to share their skills and compassion with others. While the RAM Volunteer Corps will remain all-volunteer, the Foundation's structure will offer career opportunities in social service and nonprofit management.

The RAMF is committed to developing and implementing strategies for the proliferation of Remote Area Medical programs. Always, the aim is to help relieve suffering, cure disease, restore sight, and enhance the lives of thousands of impoverished and isolated people and their animals every year.
