Remote Area Medical (RAM®) and the Good Faith Clinic held a free pop-up dental, vision, and medical clinic in Athens, Tennessee, on February 22, 2025. This free clinic in Tennessee served 106 patients in one day. Volunteers provided nearly $83,000 in free care to uninsured residents of McMinn and Meigs counties.

Each year, millions of individuals across the U.S. go without access to healthcare. Due to geographic, economic, or other barriers, much of the U.S. population is uninsured or underinsured. Nonprofit organizations, like RAM and the Good Faith Clinic, step in to offer free healthcare services to those in need.

Throughout the year, the Good Faith Clinic offers free medical care to individuals who do not have health insurance. Once a year RAM works with the Good Faith Clinic to bring dental and vision care to these patients. RAM’s mobile dentistry unit and mobile optical lab allow RAM to bring vision and dental services to patients. We bring these services not only across the state but across the country.

Free Clinic in Tennessee Brings Dental, Vision, and Medical Care

Starting at 7:30 A.M., volunteers began triaging patients and getting them on to the path to receiving the care. Thanks to 98 volunteers, including medical, dental, and vision professionals, and general support volunteers, these patients were able to receive quality healthcare at no cost to them.

Services available to patients included complete eye exams, eyeglasses made on site, general medical exams, women’s health exams, dental fillings, and extractions. Patients were able to go home on the day of the clinic with a brand-new pair of glasses.

“[The Good Faith Clinic] has been helping the population of Athens and McMinn County that are very underserved and have a lot of issues, you know, just making ends meet on a daily basis,” said RAM’s Volunteer Manager, Mary Brown. “And to be able to help those same people be able to have — to get a pair of glasses . . . Then to get the dental care that they so desperately need — that’s a wonderful thing to bring to your hometown.”

The Good Faith Clinic began just 10 years after RAM, in 1995. They are celebrating the 30th anniversary in July of 2025. Located in Athens, Tennessee, the clinic provides primary health care, has an on-site pharmacy with maintenance medications, and offers lab and other diagnostic tests.

“It’s a blessing that it’s continued for 30 years and people have shown up in the positions that were needed,” Good Faith Clinic Volunteer Pharmacist, Steve, said.
