ROCKFORD, TN (June 8, 2018) – June 11-15 has been proclaimed Tennessee Smile Power Week by Governor Bill Haslam and the Tennessee Charitable Care Network (TCCN). Remote Area Medical (RAM)TM is joining state-wide events by celebrating and promoting free dental care available to families at its two Tennessee mobile medical clinics taking place during the month of June.
The Memphis RAM clinic will be located at Word of Life Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1215 Floyd Avenue, Memphis, TN 38127. The clinic parking lot will open no later than 12 a.m. midnight on Saturday, June 23. Ticket distribution begins at 3 a.m., and patients will be seen in chronological order according to their ticket number when clinic doors open at 6 a.m. This process will repeat on Sunday, June 24. Services available at the Memphis RAM clinic include dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental x-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses, women’s health exams, and general medical exams.
The Harrogate RAM clinic will be located at Lincoln Memorial University’s Tex Turner Arena, 6965 Cumberland Gap Parkway, Harrogate, TN 37752. The clinic will follow the same patient ticketing procedures as the Memphis clinic and will also offer free dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental x-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses, women’s health exams, chest x-rays, pulmonary function testing, and general medical exams.
Recognizing the importance of early childhood oral health interventions, RAM will also celebrate Tennessee Smile Power Week by distributing free toothbrushes to children participating in the summer reading program at the E.G. Fisher Public Library in Athens, Tennessee.
“Smile Power Week celebrates the power of the smile,” said Jeff Eastman, CEO of Remote Area Medical.
“We are proud to celebrate our patients, our clinic staff and the support of so many volunteers who help us to meet the oral health needs of communities across the state of Tennessee and beyond.”
The CDC states, “Oral health affects our ability to speak, smile, eat, and show emotions. It also affects self-esteem, school performance, and attendance at work and school. Oral diseases—which range from cavities to gum disease to oral cancer—cause pain and disability for millions of Americans.” Tennessee Smile Power Week was created to promote healthy smiles across the state during National Smile Month. TCCN and RAM encourage Tennesseans to care for their oral health by brushing their teeth in the morning, after meals, and at night before bed.
Last year, Remote Area Medical recruited 2,704 dental volunteers who graciously provided patients with $7,040,729 worth of free dental services. These services included 5,499 dental fillings, 20,129 tooth extractions, 2,102 dental cleanings, and 202 sets of dentures. RAM is always in need of additional dental professionals to volunteer their time and skills at RAM clinics throughout the country.
