If we were to hang a sign out front, what would it read?
By Poppy Green, Marketing Manager
Speaking of the Old Man of the Mountain rock formation in the Franconia Notch, famous New Hampshire Statesman Daniel Webster wrote:
“Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoe makers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men.”
Therefore what sign should we hang out in front of each clinic? In front of Remote Area Medical (RAM) headquarters in Rockford, TN? Perhaps we should follow the words of Webster and hang out a gold tooth, a pair of glasses, and a stethoscope. Somehow this trio falls short of fully representing all that RAM is for the thousands of patients, volunteers, and supporters that prove testament to a mission statement lived out everyday. For many, RAM represents hope. For patients, RAM is hope that they will no longer have to live in pain and suffering. For volunteers, RAM is the hope that they can make a difference in the world even through the smallest act of service. Our supporters find hope in knowing that whether they are near or far they can be a part of an organization that lives out its mission.
