Stan Brock: Cowboy, TV star, and Founder of Remote Area Medical (RAM).
RAM was founded in 1985 by the late Stan Brock with the mission to bring free quality healthcare to those in need. The documentary of Brock’s life, Medicine Man: The Stan Brock Story, is now streaming! The film about RAM’s Founder and President is now available on Prime Video, Tubi, and more! Medicine Man will also be showing Nov. 7, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Medicine Man: The Stan Brock Story follows the story of Brock’s life and the moments that made him recognize the need for free healthcare, leading to the creation of RAM.

Stan Brock on The Dadanawa Ranch —
The documentary follows Brock’s time as a cowboy on the Dadanawa Ranch in Guyana, the world’s largest cattle ranch at the time. This is where Brock discovered his love for animals and the great outdoors. In the film, Brock tells stories from his time on the ranch, from what it takes to become a barefoot cowboy to roping and tying the largest bull on the ranch by himself.
The Dadanawa Ranch is where Brock first realized the need for accessible healthcare for those in remote areas. He talks about his experiences on the ranch, knowing that the nearest doctor was only accessible by nearly a month’s walk on foot.
Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom —
During his time at the Dadanawa Ranch, Brock became involved as a co-host on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. What started as occasionally filming in Guyana turned into moving to the U.S. to become the show’s full-time co-host.

This rise to fame opened lots of doors for Brock, even allowing him to star in movies. He used his fame to promote a cause he cared deeply about, his nonprofit organization, Remote Area Medical.
Stan Brock: Founding Remote Area Medical —
Brock founded Remote Area Medical in 1985, with the mission to provide free, quality care to those in need. RAM was a direct response to his time spent on the Dadanawa Ranch. From the ranch it was a 26-day walk to the nearest doctor to receive necessary medical care. The documentary highlights RAM’s first expedition — Santiago Ixcuintla, Mexico was able to provide much-needed free healthcare to 1,000+ patients.
This was just the beginning of RAM and Brock’s life’s work. Brock was an advocate for the passing of the Volunteer Healthcare Act of 1995 passing in Tennessee, which allows out-of-state healthcare providers to volunteer their services in the state of Tennessee. He also spoke before Congress to advocate for healthcare reform in the U.S.
Stan Brock’s Legacy —
Stan Brock was a volunteer for Remote Area Medical first and foremost. His passion for bringing free healthcare to those in need has allowed RAM to host more than 1,400 clinics and provide care to more than 950,000 patients.
Since Stan’s passing in 2018, RAM has continued to grow, serving more communities and individuals in need. RAM has brought pop-up medical clinics to more states than ever before, created a Telehealth Program, and created pioneering technology in 3D printing dentures.
All of this was inspired by Brock’s passion and his desire for RAM to “Never forget the mission.”
