I appreciate her treating me like a human being — like a person. That goes a long ways. They called you by your first name instead of your last name. I know it’s a little thing, but that means a lot. – Jeremy

What is Telehealth?

Sometimes called telemedicine, telehealth allows patients to receive care from healthcare providers remotely through live video conferencing, phone calls, and secure messaging online.

What makes Remote Area Medical (RAM)’s Telehealth program different from other primary care practices?

RAM’s Telehealth program is fueled by donations and operated by licensed volunteer providers, allowing us to offer quality medical care at no cost to patients. In addition to being free, RAM’s Telehealth program unlocks access to care for people unable to visit a doctor’s office due to geographic barriers, transportation limitations, health conditions, or other limiting factors.

What kind of medical care can I receive through RAM’s Telehealth program?

During a Telehealth visit, RAM Volunteer doctors can offer wellness visits; help with dermatology (skin care) issues; consultations for conditions such as sinusitis, urinary tract infections, and common rashes; as well as non-narcotic prescription refills (medications are not covered by Remote Area Medical). This care is considered acute care and is not meant as primary or long term care.

Do I need insurance to use this service?

Insurance is not required for any of RAM’s services, including Telehealth. All of RAM’s services are free.

How do I get care with Remote Area Medical Telehealth?

2. We will contact you to complete registration and schedule an appointment. Please return calls/texts (865-500-8599) or emails ( from RAM.

3. Check-in with a RAM Telehealth team member 10 minutes prior to your appointment and join a video call with the doctor at your scheduled time.

Do I need a computer to use RAM's Telehealth services?

You can use any device with an internet connection, video, and audio capabilities. A desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone will work.

Can my child use Remote Area Medical’s Telehealth service?

RAM’s Telehealth program is currently only serving adult Tennessee residents. RAM does not offer Telehealth care to children. TennCare provides healthcare services to children in Tennessee.

Can I get a prescription refilled?

Licensed RAM Volunteer doctors can order many common non-narcotic prescriptions and can send most common non-narcotic refill requests to your preferred pharmacy. Please provide the pharmacy’s name and phone number to the RAM team member during check-in prior to your appointment. Please note:

• RAM Volunteer doctors do NOT order narcotic prescriptions and are not guaranteed to be able to order or request refills for all prescriptions.
